Camera and sound: Seth Nehil
Movement: Kelly Rauer and Leah Wilmouth

Locate was commissioned by Disjecta Contemporary Art Center for the PORTLAND2014 Biennial of Contemporary Art curated by Amanda Hunt. A disorienting array of movement amid deep black is presented across three synchronized video channels. The camera moves and dances with the performers while patterns and stark colors vibrate against the eyes. Locate heightens awareness of the duplicity of corporeal qualities such as weight, texture, flesh and gender, illuminating bodies slowly and quickly undulating in and out of obscurity. Rauer's performance reveals the manner in which human recollection of the body is shaped by the viewer's ability (or inability) to isolate recognizable forms and sources of movement.
